The Spatiality of Food[Speculations towardsa new Urban Hospitality]

Food is the base of social life, the epidome of pleasure, a basic human need. Food is spatial. Approaching food and eating are highly sensual experiences. In the process of eating, the food and the body become one.

In the process of eating,
food and the human body become one.
The Spatiality of Food presents an alternative scenario in Vienna, Capital of the Land of Plenty, where food is re-introduced as a space-defining, central, community-generating and pleasurable element, defining a new urban hospitality, and a new awareness for the sensuality of food.
Within the proposed Public Food Infrastructure, food, Basic Universal Necessity No.1, is provided for all hungry and appetite-sensing citizens. They approach, prepare and consume food in public space together, being host and guest in exchanging roles.
In the project, the spatiality of food is studied from macro to micro scale. Architecture becomes a mediator between the city, the body, and food.
